For Faculty: Library Instruction

This guide provides faculty with information about everything related to the CCS Libraries

In-Class Support

Librarians are available to come to your class in-person or virtually to provide instruction on how to use the Library. Instruction sessions are tailored to individual class needs and can integrate information literacy, visual literacy, and critical thinking skills into the classroom assignment.

Please submit requests at least two weeks in advance to ensure availability of Library staff and allow time to prepare and plan materials. Schedule a time via the Library Instruction Form.

Examples of Library instruction sessions:

  • General Library orientation
  • Searching for Library resources
  • Trend research
  • Material collection
  • Visual literacy sessions
  • Citations

Schedule time to use the Library's space without instruction (i.e. for browsing, studying, etc.) via the Space Reservation form (please provide at least 24 hours advance notice to ensure we have space).

Library Instruction Resources

Are you interested in extended Library instruction for your students or personal help designing assignments or selecting resources for your class(es)? We have several options for you to choose from!

  1. Assignment and resource consultations: the Library Director can meet with faculty to help devise course assignments or provide suggestions of resources to use in class.

To inquire, please email Library Director Becca Pad (rpad@ccsdetroit.edu).

  1. Custom instructional materials: the Library can create a course guide to be embedded in your Canvas course, tailored to the topics you teach.
  2. Embedded librarianship: invite a Librarian to visit your classroom more than once during the semester to help students build on research skills.

To inquire, please email Research and Instruction Librarian Brooke Lowe.
