For Faculty: Course Reserve

This guide provides faculty with information about everything related to the CCS Libraries

Setting Up Course Reserve Materials

To place an item on reserve:

  • Fill out the Course Reserve Request Form.
  • Please submit one form per course/section, including all requested materials in your submission.
  • Course Reserve requests should be completed prior to each semester the item is needed.
  • Requests may include new resources and/or resources already owned by the CCS Library.
  • Allow 14 days for the items to be placed on Course Reserve at the beginning of the semester. Instructors should wait to notify students about Course Reserve materials until after materials have been processed and placed on reserve.
  • Instructors will be contacted by Library staff once item processing is complete and the Course Reserve status has been confirmed.
  • Instructors may review current reserves via the Course Reserve list in the Library catalog.

Items placed on Course Reserve will be made available for in-library use for four hours at a time by students who would otherwise be unable to purchase assigned materials to complete coursework throughout the semester. We are unable to purchase instructor copies of Course Reserves, but instructors are able to check out Course Reserve materials for a short period to review or bring to a class session.

If you would like a student to check out Course Reserve materials for your class for a longer time, you may fill out the Course Reserve Checkout Permission Form. Please keep in mind that some classes have multiple sections taught by multiple instructors when filling out this form.

Streaming Media Course Reserves

CCS Library offers streaming media through Swank and Kanopy. Faculty may search Swank or Kanopy for additional titles.

Streaming media may only be requested by faculty via the Course Reserve Request Form. When requesting streaming media, please include a link to a summary of the film (on Rotten Tomatoes, etc.) to ensure we have all the necessary information.

Films from Swank can be embedded in Canvas but films from Kanopy require a link to the site. For more information, see the how-to page on streaming media.

Although the licensing rights to the streaming media in Kanopy and Swank are purchased for specific courses, the films can be viewed by any member of the CCS community.

Licensing rights are not permanent. Streaming media requests should be completed prior to each semester the item is needed.
